Social media has created hype in the world of search engine marketing. If you are creating a SEO plan for your website then it is not possible that you could ignore the role of social media marketing. Social media has become an integral part of the overall marketing strategy of any website. If SEO techniques are good for generating the search engine traffic on one hand then social media is good for generating organic traffic on the other hand. They go hand in hand to generate two important types of traffic for your website.
Social media marketing is a great addition to any traditional SEO campaign that you are working on, but it is not a substitute. A blended approach is needed. We can’t deny the power of social media for movement, but we should use it with other forms, and not take advantage of only one approach. Below is a review of the traffic generated by search engines and social media marketing.
Traffic Generated By Using SEO Techniques:
The traffic generated by a search engine is more genuine and authentic because people have been actively searching for specific terms, and as a result of their query they have found a website that can meet their needs. There is a better chance that the traffic generated by search engine results will lead to customers on your website. I would definitely suggest that you consider making your website better and search engine friendly by optimizing anchor text, site popularity, link context, topical links, title tags, keywords, site language, content and site maturity. These techniques will help you to stand out of the crowd when your keywords are used in a search engine.
Traffic Generated By Social Media Marketing (Organic Traffic):
Once you are satisfied with your user friendly website and the SEO techniques that you have applied on your website then you should consider using other methods like marketing using social media. Social media can be a blog, forum, video contents, profile of your company on a social networking site or anything related to your company and services that converge traffic to your website. Social media is good at generating traffic for the long term but the aspect of goal conversion in social media marketing is low when compared with search engine marketing. The visitors you get are not necessarily the visitors you are aiming for. Your percentage of conversion is going to be lower than it is with SEO because instead of actively searching for your product or service, the users almost stumble upon your site instead. A good percentage of them might not be your targeted demographic. However, social media marketing can be good at improving your reputation and your search engine ranking by giving you genuine inbound links. You can read more about social media marketing in a previous blog called Social Media Marketing.
Personally, I would recommend that you consider having social media on your own website. You can include a poll, forum, blog or even games related to your site. This will make your website more search engine friendly, which will lead to better rankings. Visitors will not only come to see your products, but also to read your blog, interact with other users on a discussion board, play a game and hopefully they will turn into customers.
In conclusion, I suggest that SEO, PPC, Social Media , PR and email campaigns are all tactics that you use to improve your business. Focus on all of them while maintaining your own website consistently in order to get the most out of your online presence.
