Social networking has made it easier than ever for people to communicate with each other. It now requires less time to have conversations, share ideas, send photos and much more. Nowadays, people are busier and have less time to meet so many prefer these online communities. The fact remains that a social networking community will never be a substitute for face to face interactions.
Social networking has lead to less collaboration and interaction among people in practical terms. These networks give people an opportunity to interact with each other while avoiding taking the time to physically meet in person. It does not matter to what extent you are mingling online, it does not replace real meetings.
Face to face interaction is more viral because it involves communication using voices, gestures, and much more physical communication. This physical communication helps better understand the person you are communicating with. Face to face meetings help improve the quality of relationships. Consider employees who have face to face interactions with their bosses. They have a higher level of interaction than employees communicating through email and social networking sites.
The point remains that face to face communication holds more value than social networking sites alone. It cannot be replaced by social networking because it provides a different kind of interaction, and it can increase confidence. It is difficult to build a relationship through emails and social networking alone.
Impact of social communities on new generation:
A survey conducted in 2007 shows that almost 55 percent of teens use some type of social networking site very often. The main reason the teens use this mode of communication is to keep in touch with their friends often and to associate with people who they do not see on a regular basis. The rate that the usage of social networking sites is increasing should probably concern their parents, as this will lessen their use of face to face interaction and will ultimately affect their overall personality.
Social networks try to facilitate their customers by linking them up with friends and helping them coordinate with each other. This can help them with their face to face interactions later in life. A social network provides its users the opportunity to get to know each other. However, there is a lot of personality lost through the internet that you would get to know better in person.
Today the social networking facility is being mostly used by the teenagers who have become more social online and less social in person. Most teens prefer this method of communication over leaving their home to meet people. It is easy to meet people through social networking sites, but many relationships do not grow beyond acquaintances. Another drawback is the ability to misunderstand a person’s intent online. It is much easier to lie about who you are. It is also easy to be misinterpreted.
Although social networking has flaws, it also has many advantages that we can look at. It provides parents with the opportunity to monitor the actions of their children and who their friends are. Privacy settings are in place to protect the security of users. Teens and young adults can use this medium to practice building relationships with others, which is a skill that will help them later in life.
